Suure-Jaani Municipality  Covernment formed on 21nd October 2005, after joining together the town of Suure-Jaani and the municipalities of Suure-Jaani, Olustvere and Vastemõisa.

The municipality is located in the north-eastern and northern part of the county of Viljandi and it occupies 746.61 km², i.e. 21% of the county. By the territory, Suure-Jaani Municipality is the second largest municipality in Estonia. A part of the Soomaa National Park is located there. 
 
A town – Suure-Jaani, a borough – Olustvere, and 46 villages - Arjadi, Epra, Jälevere, Kabila, Karjasoo, Kerita, Kibaru, Kootsi, Kõidama, Lahmuse, Lõhavere, Munsi, Navesti, Nuutre, Põhjaka, Päraküla, Reegoldi, Rääka, Sürgavere, Taevere, Tällevere, Vihi, Võhmassaare, Võlli, Ängi, Aimla, Jaska, Kuhjavere, Kuiavere, Kurnuvere, Kärevere, Mudiste, Mäeküla, Riiassaare, Tääksi, Võivaku, Ülde, Vastemõisa, Metsküla, Kobruvere, Kildu, Ivaski, Ilbaku, Lemmakõnnu, Paelama and Sandra, belong to Suure-Jaani municipality.

The most populous is the town of Suure-Jaani – about 1250 inhabitants are living there, the smallest village is Karjasoo - only 10 inhabitants. Sandra village has the biggest territory – 173 km2 . This is also the biggest village in Estonia, and by the territory, it is bigger than 50 other municipalities or even Tallinn, but there are only two dozens inhabitants – most of the area is occupied by the mire Valgeraba.    

Altogether, more than 6200 people i.e. about 11% of the population of the County of Viljandi, are living in Suure-Jaani municipality.
